The Family: A Proclamation on Gender!

The Family: A Proclamation on Gender!

"The Family: A Proclamation To The World" addresses several important facets of human kind. It addresses the importance of the family, the different roles that a father and mother should play, and many other important opinions that relate to the family. The best part of the proclamation is that the information within it is not just mere opinion, it is fact. It is revelation from an all-knowing, all-loving God given to his children to help them get through the world today without as much confusion. In the second paragraph of the proclamation it addresses gender. It reads...

"ALL HUMAN BEINGS—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose."

One the first things that this paragraph addresses is that all human beings are created int he image of God. This is so important because it means we are akin, or likened unto, God. It gives us identity to know that we are created to look and be like unto the highest most important being that exists. Sometimes, as humans, life doesn't go well and we can be pretty negative about ourselves. Knowing that we are created in the image of God helps us to view ourselves as something greater. It also allows us to look at other human beings in a new light. Not only are you created in his image, but so is your neighbor, no matter their ethnicity, culture, or physical state.

The second sentence explains how we are all sons or daughters of heavenly parents. This sentence is important because it gives us heritage with God. We are his literal sons and daughters and knowing this makes us important to him. It gives us purpose and a feeling of connection to God. Satan is interested in us not believing this doctrine because when we know where we come from we are empowered to do better and become better.

The same sentence also says that we all have a divine nature and destiny. To me, knowing that I have a divine nature makes me think that I am made up of some of God's nature. Some characteristics that make him all powerful, all loving, and all knowing, exist in me. That is a large doctrine, but even if their is a small part of who God is in me, that makes me feel better about myself. Knowing that I have a destiny, or a plan for my life, makes me feel more excited for the future as well.

The final and likely most important part of this paragraph focuses on gender. It is described as an essential characteristic for each of us that extends throughout all eternity. Meaning we are always, have always, and will always be the gender we are when we are born on earth. This is important because males and females are different in more ways than just physically. There were clearly differences before we had bodies and came to the earth. These differences are important and factor into our eternity. So knowing our gender, and living up to what it means to be that gender, is vital to our fulfilling our eternal destiny.

In our day there is a lot of confusion over gender, but the proclamation is very clear.  Even among religion there is a lack of clarity in the world that leads to great confusion. If gender is part of our eternal identity and had purpose then it is something to not be confused about. I invite any who are confused to visit these websites for support and knowledge.
